Governor Speaks at Sludge Project Groundbreaking

New Mexico Governor Susana Martinez commended the Village of Los Lunas and its staff for working together on economic development in the community at the Monday, July 16, 2018, groundbreaking for the Village Sludge Management Project.

Governor Martinez said that the new sludge project will provide service for years into the future to the citizens and businesses of Los Lunas including the now under-construction Facebook facility.

New Mexico Economic Development Secretary Matthew Geisel congratulated those who made the project groundbreaking happen. He pointed out that the announcement of Facebook coming to Los Lunas has resulted in other projects.

The project increases the Village’s sludge management to a capacity that will take care of future growth and development. It will also provide additional options for disposal of sludge, including creating compost.

Other speakers at the event were Village Mayor Charles Griego; Clayton Ten Eyck of Molzen Corbin, the Village consulting engineers; and Clay Blair, president/operations of RMCI Inc., contractor for the $8.6 million project.

The sludge management project is expected to be completed in June 2020.
